DC Surge Suppression

Corrosion Electronics manufactures surge suppression modules to suit a variety of needs. Whether its protecting the DC output or protecting a structure/reference input we can tailor a solution to suit your needs.

Featuring a select combination of Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV's), Inductors and Gas Arrestors and a modular rail-mounted approach, the DC surge suppression we offer is designed to minimise damage to sensitive electronic controls in the event of lightning surges.

The module pictured to the right is an example of one of our custom DC surge suppression modules capable of protecting a DC output with a maximum current of 5 amps or less. A similar module is also offered but for DC output currents of 10 amps or less.

We also offer popular solutions from Critec for both AC and DC surge suppression solutions.

Corrosion Electronics Pty Ltd manufactures 5A and 10A series connected modules which feature inductor suppression, as well as parallel connected modules to suit every situation.

Cathodic Protection HV Surge Suppression Module 5A

Corrosion Electronics Pty Ltd DCMOV-10A is an inline HV surge module providing common mode and differential protection for CP controllers.

The maximum through current rating is 5 amps.

A good low impedance earth connection is essential for the surge module to provide the best protection.

The module mounts on a horizontal or vertical DIN rail. Inputs and outputs are Plug / Socket connections.

The Product codes vary depending on the CP output voltage:

DCMOV-5A-50V-20kA for use up to 30V DC output
DCMOV-5A-60V-20kA for use from 31 to 50VDC output
DCMOV-5A-130V-20kA for use on TRADS

The main components are:

Bullet Point 20kA gas tube diverters with 230V spark over. These are the first line of defence and shunt energy from each line to earth, followed by:
Bullet Point Inductors on each line rated 220uH / 5A followed by:
Bullet Point On the negative line, MOV diverters rated 50V / 12kA shunting fault energy to earth and on the Positive line, MOV diverters rated 50V / 12kA shunting fault energy to earth and across to the Negative line

Note: The 50V MOVs will start shunting 1mA to earth at nominally 82 volts DC. The 60V MOVs will start shunting 1mA to earth at nominally 101 volts DC

Corrosion Electronics Pty Ltd DCMOV-10A is an inline HV surge module providing common mode and differential protection for CP controllers.

The maximum through current rating is 10 amps.

Reference Surge Suppressor

Corrosion Electronics Pty Ltd REFP1 is an inline HV surge module providing common mode and differential protection for Structure / Reference inputs to controllers.

The inputs to this module will normally be within +/- 5 volts except in the case where lightning induced transients are imposed.

This module is designed to clamp HV transients down to <17V so that controller inputs are not damaged.

A good low impedance earth connection is essential for the surge module to function.

The module mounts on a horizontal or vertical DIN rail. Inputs and outputs are Plug / Socket connections.

The main components are:

Bullet Point 20kA gas tube diverters with 90V spark over. These are the first line of defence and shunt energy from each line to earth, followed by:
Bullet Point Resistors on each line rated 1000 ohms / 2 watt followed by MOV diverters to earth.
Bullet Point A second stage follows with another 1000 ohm resistor in both lines followed by a 12V bi-polar clamping device across both lines.
